Google SEO Has Always Been Old School

Google SEO has always been old school, and this will never change. Content is King and always will be. And there are many things that the today’s SEO companies are forgetting. They go after mass backlink building, but they forget the simple needs such as pinging and the power behind FeedBurner and Technorati. FeedBurner used to be an awesome power tool until Google bought them out in 2007. even though Google now owns FeedBurner, it is still a nice power pack if used properly.

Every one has different ideas, methods and techniques on SEO. Today I am going to give you my input. I started out in search engine optimization when the search engine wars began. Though I have been doing online optimization since the days of BBS. BBS started in 1978 but I was only 5 at the time. I got heavily involved in optimizing my topics on BBS in the mid 1980’s on my Apple II+. Oh those days were fun. But we are here today, 2016, and the SEO methods I use to rank have not changed and are complete white hat search engine optimization methods.

I remember when Google first started to become popular. I was a yahoo fan and the switch was not easy for me. I started with Yahoo in 1995 and considered myself to be the top dog in SEO. Using my techniques that I used then on Yahoo and eventually Google, still work today. I really had a hard time converting to Google. I hated them. They were becoming so popular, and at a rapid pace, and I saw my prospects moving to the Google search. I eventually moved over to Google in 2004. I hated leaving Yahoo. I remember when WordPress came out in 2003 and FeedBurner in 2004. I would take a newly purchased domain, install WordPress on it, optimize it with FeedBurner and Technorati, publish my first post title with my keyword phrase and correct tags, and BAM, 13 minutes #1 in Yahoo for the keyword coffee. But this was not as profitable anymore as the traffic began moving toward Google, as well as competitor site designs started to improve and change and a new market was emerging.

Here comes the big change, switching to Google. Oh, it was heartbreaking. And it was becoming frustrating, my Yahoo SEO method did not work so well in Google. Something was missing. So, I studied and studied, and still no fast results. Nothing! but then by pure luck, it happened. I was writing a 3 part article for my WordPress blog sometime in 2005, and my topic was about “Top Ranking Strategies”. I used this keyword for the three part article I published on Google SEO methods, and through trial and error, I ranked number one.

So, what was this luck I struck in Google SEO? Well, I was learning WordPress and I want to publish my 3 part article in 3 posts. I published part 1 first, then Part 2 and then Part 3. Well, the order was not correct. Part 3 was showing at the top, not Part 1. I did not know WordPress well at the time, so I deleted the articles and published Part 3 first, then 2 and then 1 to get the correct order. The latest posts shows first. Then crap, a few hours later, I came up with Part 4. Well, I deleted all the posts again and republished the 4 part article. I did not know at the time what I was doing, I did not know that every time I did this I was pinging the hell out of Google. WOW!!! a few days later I was in the number 1 spot for this phrase. From new site, not even indexed, to indexed #1 position. In 2005, every one was submitting their site to Google to be indexed. I just found a fast method through accident. Does it still work today?

The answer is YES, but on a total different level. Am I going to tell you how? Absolutely NOT! Coffee anyone? Your buying… But what I will tell you is that Google is still old school. And, Content is King and always will be. But as we are in 2016, it is a little different. But the old methods still are a big part of it. Today you have a lot of self proclaiming SEO companies that I think are really just link builders, not true Google SEO masters. I will explain this.

Today’s SEO companies forget the most basic thing, and that is site design. They like to sell you the concept of backlinks, and more backlinks, and even more. And now, even different type of backlinks, contextual backlinks, PR backlinks and much more. Are these helpful? Yes, to an extent. Please understand my methods are based off of using WordPress only. On any site you build using WordPress, make sure you have a very good hosting company which is also important. When you build your site, always do it live and online, that way every change you make you is telling Google that you are here and this is what your site is about. For any keyword or keyword phrase, if done correctly, you should rank for that phrase in the first 10 pages of Google without any backlinks if you sites structural design is correct also. I will get into this later on how structural design works. Then you now know your site is correctly built. Don’t spin or rewrite a published article or text. Be original and use your own. Keyword density still holds some value, but keep it low, under 2.2% Don’t go for a mass amount of keywords for your home page or sub pages, make sure they are related. Once your home page and sub pages start to rank. Let them cool off for a few days, see where they settle. Once this is complete, then start pinging your site, get followers on FeedBurner, get subscribers, get Google readers, Facebook likes & Shares, Twitter tweets and a few other areas as well. You can ping your site through Technorati, which I think is a great tool. And now I am getting off track.

Google SEO will always remain to the old school concepts with a little twist of backlinks and social signals. Backlinks is another concept that will come in another article I will write later on down the road.

We have a big advantage over Google because they employ academics, superior mathematics, great script kiddies, and doing all the geeky stuff; but they have no real clue about black hat internet marketing innovations, strategies or psychology. We go after results with a commercial approach based on real life experience in all these areas, whereas the Google geeks look at everything from theoretical, model oriented “research paper” perspective, and that is not the best approach in the real-world search engine arena.

And many people take the search engines too personally. There are billions of pages in the index across thousands of data centers, and that means a huge amount of noise. Anyone who thinks that Google is after them is paranoid. Providing we stay within their filters, and you don’t do anything to get the site banned after an inspection, it won’t be banned.

The vast majority of people out there using black hat SEO methods are at war with the search engines. But it is a war they will never win. To win, you have to go with the flow, not against it. You have to consider Google to be your ally, not your enemy.
